Staff Opportunity



This position involves both implementation of mentoring program services and generating community awareness for Friends for Youth. Mentoring services include recruiting, training and screening adult volunteers and matching them one-on-one with at-risk youth. Responsibilities also include interviewing and screening the youth, providing follow-up support once each match is made, planning Life Skills Training Workshops, planning and implementing a community based activities program. Community awareness responsibilities include recruiting volunteer mentors, developing relationships with local media contacts, making presentations to community groups, supporting and managing special events, and building overall synergy within the local community.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision COO and Sr. Program Coordinator


  1. Identify, implement, and coordinate a variety of volunteer recruitment methods to increase the number of volunteer mentors in Friends for Youth.
  2. Contact television and radio stations regarding publicity opportunities.
  3. Coordinate/write articles for use in local newspapers.
  4. Develop relationships with and make presentations to service clubs, corporations, community leaders, and community groups.
  5. Facilitate volunteer orientations and trainings.
  6. Develop Volunteer Recruitment Advisory Committee.
  7. Manage Friends for Youth community events; assist with special fundraising events.
  8. Participate in or plan/implement one recreational activity per month for our Friendships.
  9. Represent FFY on community youth committees.
  10. Manage a caseload of youth/adult “Friendships”
  11. Make weekly contact with matched volunteers.
  12. Plan two Life Skills Training Workshops per year for the Friendships.
  13. Plan two Volunteer Support Groups per year.
  14. Work with other program staff (both paid and volunteer) to coordinate efforts on behalf of youth and volunteers, and to provide support of other special projects.
  15. Serve as an Ambassador representing Friends for Youth in the community.

HOURS: Full Time, flexible schedule

SALARY RANGE: $37,000 – $42,000, dependent on experience


Ideal Candidate will have passion and experience for working with at-risk youth as well as demonstrated success connecting organizations with the community. Specific qualifications include: Excellent organizational skills, knowledge of local community and resources, outstanding communication skills, ability to work well with a wide spectrum of people, creative thinker, self-starter, ability to work flexible hours, exceptional writing skills, ability to work well independently as well as with a team, experience in media relations and P.R., managing special events, and public speaking experience. Spanish-speaking a plus. Clean DMV, insurance.


Minimum B.A. degree or equivalent experience and at least 1 year related work experience
