Juan Solorio, 11

Juan is a bundle of energy with a zest for life. He finds joy in being active, playing soccer, and immersing himself in the world of video games, particularly Fortnite. His favorite rapper is 50 Cent, and he can't get enough of the song "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles. When winding down, Juan enjoys watching his favorite cartoon, Spongebob, and indulging in delicious foods like tamales, ramen, tacos, and Subway.

Living in San Mateo with his mom, dad, and younger brother, Angel, Juan feels secure in his community. Juan faces challenges at home and school, lacking the support he needs. His parents resort to incentives like extra playtime on video games to motivate him academically, a strategy that seems to be working for now.

Excited to be a part of the Friends for Youth program, Juan hopes for a mentor to offer advice and be a positive influence in his life.

A mentor can play a pivotal role in Juan's journey by providing support, guidance, and a constructive outlet for his energy. Engaging in outdoor activities, playing soccer together, and learning new skills to manage his temper are potential avenues for growth. Through a mentorship, Juan can find the support he needs to navigate challenges, make positive choices, and discover the fun and fulfillment beyond his beloved video games.
